Once a month, Kelly dares Jessica to watch a film surrounding the monthly theme. These challenges are meant to scare, or unsettle, Jessica, and broaden her horror horizons.
KELLY:
Werewolf moves aren't scary, they just aren't! I know Jessica doesn't think so either, and I personally haven't seen a ton of werewolf movies so I decided to continue with the theme of transformation and chose Kevin Smith's 2014 film Tusk. Like Pin (1988), this movie won't scare Jessica to death but I guarantee it will weird her out. This challenge is not only about giving Jessica the heebie jeebies, it's about getting under her skin and, hopefully, produce a nightmare or two! Enjoy.
JESSICA'S REACTION:
Well, Kelly was right. This movie did not scare me but it did weird me out. The obvious fact being a serial killer turning people into walruses. That is fucked up. But what really weirded me out about this film was the fact that I could not tell if it was something really serious to be scared of or laugh at. Some of the comedic instances such as, Teddy and Ally running into the house was like something out of a Three Stooges skit. As well the representation of Canadians in the film was an extreme caricature of our culture and at times I didn't know whether to laugh or feel offended. Johnny Depp as Guy LaPointe was just too much for me to take the movie seriously But I think that was the point? I am not sure. I still don't know how I feel about this film. other then it is fucked up.
